Pantokrator – Palia Perithia

Almost 2 hours, dirt road.

The road to Pantokrator is paved by asphalt and it leads to the very top itself. Once you wander about the monastery and marvel at the view you may descend down the road for about 500 meters. Once you encounter the distinctive red arrow mark you may embark on the dirt road to your right hand which will lead you to Palia Perithia. On every crossroad you may meet you always take the road to the left. The road is built on the slopes of Mt. Pantokrator and is a very pleasant road to walk upon as it offers a magnificent vantage point to gaze upon the hills underneath and all the way to Albania.

If you feel adventurous then you may opt out of the main road close to the kiosk and turn left into the alternative path which is not very well preserved nor signed either. Behind the kiosk there is a yellow mark which signifies the head of the alt path. Once you reach a low wall turn to your left and the path will lead you down to the village of Perithia between two hills. When you finally descent upon the main road you will have 300 more meters left until you reach the village center. You may reach Almyros resort from Palia Perithia if you keep walking for two more hours.

Whether you take the dirt road which you take from above Palia Perithia (keep right towards the village of Lafki) or by following the path through the village of Krinies.

It’s better if you descend Pantokrator during morning hours while the heat is at a minimum because you may find no shade among the road. Just don’t forget to take your hat and loads of water with you.
