Located on the east side of the island, due north of the Corfu town and at a distance of 8 km lies the lively resort of Gouvia.
It’s situated along a road which is lined with restaurants, bars, shops, night-clubs and hotels. You can also find car and motor bike rental and a few pharmacies. Gouvia also has a historical side to it in the form of the ancient ruins of the Venetian dockyards, the only ones that have endured don the island.
The beach in Gouvia is mostly sand and shingle, well organized and with a choice of sunbeds and umbrella and sea sports for rent. From the beach there is a great view at the church of Ipapanti which is like it’s built on the water, at the forested peninsula of Kommeno – known for its luxurious hotels and at the yacht dock nearby.
The resort is connected with the rest of the island through a regular bus service and concretely with the blue busses which start in Dassia and go to Corfu town (every 20’ or so) and with the green busses which go to all the northern resorts of Corfu, such as Sidari, Acharavi, Kassiopi and Barbati.
