Paleokastritsa

Paleokastritsa is one of the most beautiful places on Corfu island. This is so widely acknowledged that even a James Bond film has been shot there.

As such the place is a must destination for all guests visiting Corfu.Paleokastritsa is situated 25 kms from Corfu town. You can reach it from there via regular bus service, rent-a-car, rent-a-scooter or taxi service. In Paleokastritsa rock meets the sand and both are embraced by turquoise water. A main characteristic of the sea water is the fact that it’s crystal clear and cold, owed to the fact that the gulf is open to the Ionian Pelage. As you descent and enter the lowest parts of the place you can’t miss the central beach (offering a plethora of scents from the surrounding restaurants) and the almost hidden, back, smaller beach. From these two beaches you have the opportunity of renting a pedalo or a motor boat but keep on the road and you’re heading up towards the monastery. The monastery is renowned for offering the best vista of Paleokastritsa and is a portal to the famous myth of Odysseus offering the chance to gaze at Odysseus alleged ship turned to stone. The myth of Odysseus is prevalent on Paleokastritsa where once a year a reconstruction of the epic scene of arrival of Odysseus takes place involving an elaborate show with boats, narration and fireworks. A celebration called “Varkarola”. The event takes place in the middle of August and is a distinct experience, contributing to the cultural diversity of Paleokastritsa.

Paleokastritsa can also satisfy your appetite with a wide selection of restaurants offering fresh sea food of exquisite quality as well as refresh your mood with it’s rich night life.
